After a 1-1 draw in their Copa del Rey Last 16 first leg against Girona, Atletico Madrid were eliminated from the competition on Wednesday night, after drawing 3-3 at home in the return fixture.

Atleti took the lead in the 12th minute through Croatian forward, Nikola Kalinic, but were then pegged back by Valery Fernandez in the 37th to go into half-time at 1-1. Cristhian Stuani then netted in the second half to put the visitors in front, Diego Simone's men needed to respond and they did so, as Angel Correa on 66' and then Antoine Griezmann in the 84th swung the tie back around in Atletico's favour. However, there was to be late heartbreak for the home team, with Seydou Doumbia scoring two minutes from time to hand the away team the victory on away goals and progression to the quarter-finals.

On Saturday, Atletico will turn their attention back to league matters when they face Huesca away. Atleti remain five points off top spot in La Liga with Barcelona currently leading the way.
